Deferral of Tax Payments

VAT and income tax payments can be deferred as part of the Government’s help package.

VAT deferral

You can delay paying VAT due between 20th March and 30th June 2020 until 31 March 2021 if you wish, but don’t forget to cancel your direct debit with the bank if you have one set up. If you don't cancel the direct debit, full payment will be taken on the usual date! 

  • You can delay paying the VAT payment For the quarters ended 29th February, 30th March, and 30th April  until  31 March 2021

  • This extension of the deadline is automatic – you don't have to apply

  • Refunds will still be reimbursed

  • Make sure that you settle the outstanding payment by 31 March 2021


Income tax 31st  July  payment on account

This help has been widened to include everybody, not just the self-employed. 

  • You can delay making your July tax payment until 31 January 2021

  • This extension of the deadline is automatic – you don't have to apply

  • No penalties or interest will be charged in the deferral period

How about PAYE or corporation tax?
